With the SOAS Schools 2013 tournament less than a week away we thought that it would be sensible to answer a few questions that have been popping up about next Saturday.
Which SOAS Campus will the competition be taking place on?
The Vernon Square campus in King’s Cross:
What time is registration?
Registration will begin at 8.30am and close at 9.30. We want to run as tightly to schedule as possible so ask that you are punctual.
What is the schedule of the day/what time will the competition end?
Registration: 8.30am – 9.30am
Round 1 : 9.30am – 11.30am
Lunch: 11.30am – 12.00pm
Round 2: 12.00pm – 14.00pm
Round 3: 14.00pm – 16.00pm
Round 4: 16.00pm – 18.00pm
Dinner: 18.00pm – 18.30pm
Final: 18.30pm – 20.30pm
Will you be providing food on the day?
We will be providing dinner after Round 4 whilst the judges deliberate the break to the final.
Can we stay to watch the final?
- Yes! We strongly advise that teachers and students stay to watch final as the best way to improve as a debater is to engage with debates and observe the best techniques possible. It also makes a final more meaningful when the finalists have an audience for whom they can display their skill!
How much is the registration fee?We are charging £35 per team. This ensures that not only can we provide a better spread for dinner in the evening, but also that we have the funds to fund better judges coming to London for the competition. This means a higher standard of judging and more opportunity for the development of your students as debaters. Teams can pay on the day, and whilst we accept payment by cash or cheques are our preferred form of payment.
Will you be providing an invoice?
Yes, you will be receive an invoice straight after this email.
Please ensure that you fill this in ASAP as it means that we will save a lot of time during registration on the day: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dFZ0dC1UWV9faGRySG9vWHdvRnpqZVE6MQ#gid=0
