The School of Oriental & African Studies, University of London Debating Society is one of the most prominent and active debating societies in the UK. In addition to organising the prestigious SOAS IV, SOAS Open and SOAS Schools tournaments every year; we send teams of both novice and experienced debaters to competitions in the UK and all over the world.
We also participate in the European Universities Debating Championships (EUDC) and the World Universities Debating Championships (WUDC) annually.
Our members have won many prestigious tournaments and continue to do extremely well in competitive debates all over the UK and internationally!
For more information on our public debates and events please see our Facebook Page.
When do you meet?
We meet every week during term-time. Workshops take place every Wednesday between 6-8pm.
Venue for all sessions this year is yet to be confirmed.
Members are emailed each week with timings and venue, so make sure you join our mailing list.
Who Can Join?
Any and all SOAS students are more than welcome to join SOAS Debating Society.
We welcome individuals with little or no prior experience of debating. In fact, most of our members start with no previous debating experience. We hold workshops and training sessions during term-time and friendly debates with other university teams before tournaments to train all our debaters.
